Kebun Rimau Sdn Bhd, was
incorporated in 1979 and is principally an agro-based
organisation. It is the registered owner of about 3,000 acres of
volcanic-soil agricultural land located at Balung in Tawau
district, near the east coast of Sabah. This land has been
planted with oil palm, coffee, cocoa, teak, Arenga pinnata (palm
sugar tree) and numerous tropical fruits including noni, dragon
fruit, mangosteen and passion fruit.
The company’s principle activities have been the cultivation,
production and marketing of major commodities such as oil palm
(FFB), cocoa (dried beans), coffee (dried green beans) and fresh
tropical fruits. However, in the last few years the company
ventured into down-stream processing to add value to various
tropical fruits by transforming them into juice. As the need to
attain food safety standards emerged, a processing division,
Balung Processing Facilities, was created as a separate activity
within Kebun Rimau Sdn Bhd.
Balung Processing Facilities started with the inception of the
Noni Juice Processing Plant, located within Kebun Sungai Balung,
Tawau, 2-3 kilometers from the noni plantation of Kebun Sungai
Balung. This noni plantation covers about 300 acres; the trees
are now fully mature, yielding an average of 20 tons per acre
annually.
Other processing facilities which followed include the Misai
Kucing Herbal Tea Processing Plant; the Arenga pinnata Syrup
Processing Plant and the Freeze Dryer Processing Plant,
currently being installed as an additional process line to the
Noni Juice Processing Plant. The company also plans to open a
candy manufacturing plant and dried bird’s-eye chilli (chilli
padi) processing plant in the near future.
